This writer was late for today’s Rotary meeting due to a doctor’s appointment. So, sorry if I missed your name in this brief report.
As I walked in Craig Haterius was walking up front to draw a card in Dealing for Dollars. I am assuming, this time, that he did not draw the Ace of Spades. So, the pot is climbing!
The following Rotarians had Sunshine Moments:
---Turner Cariker told an amusing story about deceased fellow Rotarian B.C. Roberson. Turner said B.C. had actually inspired him to have some perfect attendance years. B.C. just had about 50 years plus of perfect attendance! Turner also shared some private notes of B.C. relating to the Rotary annual golf tournament. Turner, thanks for sharing!
----Kelly Thompson that bragged on her Cooper High School son who is ranking at the very top of the class---numero uno!
---Doug Eichorst shared an inspiring story of a Country Club worker whose family has many struggles and challenges, but they keep on working!
Pres. Kayla announced Kelley Galloway as the Rotarian of the week. Kelley joined Rotary in 2010, but she has really become involved with Rotary work. Congratulations, Kelley! We are glad you are one of us.
Pres. Kayla gave another plug for The Taste of Abilene which is coming up on April 3rd. She said volunteers are needed to come early and to stay late! There will be no Rotary meeting on April 6th.
The president also recognized Jamie Breed who was representing the Harmony House. This nonprofit was also a recipient of funds from Taste of Abilene.
Heather Lam went up to the podium to announce that a home is desperately needed for an exchange student. Anyone out there?
Pres. Kayla said all of us remember who invited us to our first Rotary meeting. Today, she wanted to recognize Janice Test (wife of deceased Rotarian Bob) because it was Bob who actually brought Kayla to Rotary. Janice received a couple of gifts and was dressed like a queen (as Rotary Club's Sweetheart).
Donna Albus was chairperson for the day and she shared with Rotarians her Sunshine Moment about a deaf-mute friend who helped her deliver the quilts to the Rehab telethon. Donna introduced our very own Betty Hukill and her hubby Charles who entertained Rotarians with short play. The stars? Betty and Charlie!!! In brief, it was an elderly couple who told their story in a very comical way. Each spouse could not remember who they were or who they had been married to, and where they had travelled in their good days. It was very entertaining!
And then our very own piano man concluded the show by giving Rotarians a short piano concert with piano requests. The three he played were: Stardust, Three coins in a fountain, and Moon River. Great program!
